KitchenAid's ice comes from freezer ice makers that feed door dispensers on its built-in side-by-sides, and from 15- and 18-inch undercounter ice makers, including an outdoor model. The undercounter units depend on a good drain, and KitchenAid publishes specific limits for it. KitchenAid ice makers sit in built-in and freestanding refrigerators, some as accessories, and in undercounter units in 15- and 18-inch widths. The undercounter units have their own lights and drain requirements. ### Drain limits in feet KitchenAid says a built-in drain pump should not push water more than 9 feet up or 30 feet away, and an accessory pump lifts up to 10 feet. An overlong drain run causes low ice and even power interruptions. ### Gravity drain needs a real drain Without a pump, a KitchenAid undercounter unit needs a nearby floor drain and a hose with no low spots. Water settling in a dip backs up toward the bin. ### Holiday Mode on built-ins KitchenAid built-in side-by-sides have a Holiday Mode that shows HOL and disables the dispenser levers. It is a setting, not a failure. ### The ice maker as an accessory On some KitchenAid built-in models the ice maker and bin are an accessory rather than standard equipment. A unit that never made ice may simply never have had one fitted. Parts Drain pump kits (KitchenAid gives part 1901A), filters and ice maker assemblies are specific to the model. Built-in accessory ice makers are matched to the refrigerator platform. Repair or replace A built-in KitchenAid is usually repaired rather than replaced for an ice problem. An undercounter unit with drain trouble is almost always a repair or an installation fix. Book your KitchenAid visit ## What we are called out for.
