Err on the top display of a GE Profile bottom-freezer model means no filter is present or the wrong filter is installed. The control reads the XWFE cartridge, so a missing or unrecognized one leaves the water side without a valid filter. GE Profile ice maker display What to do when Err shows on the ice maker ### Kind of code Water supply and fill The ice maker asked for water and got too little, too slowly or none at all, or water kept arriving after the fill should have ended. A closed shutoff, a kinked line, a clogged filter and low house pressure are ruled out before the water inlet valve is replaced or the fill tube is thawed. If water is on the floor, close the supply valve before reading anything on the display. ### Usually leads to Ice maker water inlet valve repair The electric valve that lets water into the ice maker, tested and replaced when it will not open, opens only partway, or keeps dripping after it should have closed. ### Shows up as No Ice Coming From the Ice Maker The mold sits empty or holds one frozen batch that never drops, the bin stays bare for days, and the dispenser gives water as usual: an ice maker not making ice while the rest of the appliance carries on normally. ### Make GE Profile GE Profile ice maker repair, including the countertop nugget ice makers that run from a reservoir instead of a water line. ### Source GE Profile bottom-freezer owner's manual 49-1000713 GE Profile bottom-freezer models with the XWFE filter (owner's manual 49-1000713). ## Before you book, in this order. Open the filter compartment and confirm a filter is installed and turned fully into place. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my GE Profile say Err after I changed the filter? The control either cannot see the new cartridge or does not accept it. Check it is an XWFE and fully turned into the locked position. ### Can I run my GE Profile without a filter to get rid of Err? Only with the bypass plug installed in the filter's place. With neither in the slot the control keeps showing Err. ### Is Err on a GE Profile the same as a board problem? Not on this display. The manual ties Err to a missing or wrong filter, so the filter slot is checked before any electronics. --- **[Read on the site: GE Profile filter display showing Err](https://icemakerrepair.center/error-codes/ge-profile-err/)** **[Book a visit with IceMakerRepair.center](https://icemakerrepair.center/schedule/)**
