Samsung lists 40E, or 40C, as an Ice Room Fan problem. On models with an in-door ice maker, that fan pushes freezer air up to the ice compartment; without it, ice forms slowly or not at all and frost can build around the fan. Samsung ice maker display · also shown as 40C What to do when 40E shows on the ice maker ### Kind of code Fans and airflow The fan that moves cold air to the ice maker stopped, slowed or froze in place. A door ice maker depends on that air, carried to the door through a duct, so when the fan quits the ice compartment warms and cubes melt and refreeze into clumps. Ice blocking the blades or the duct is ruled out before a motor is ordered. ### Usually leads to Diagnostic visit A visit that traces the water from the supply valve to the bin and back out through the drain, and names the one part that stopped the ice before anything is ordered. ### Shows up as No Ice Coming From the Ice Maker The mold sits empty or holds one frozen batch that never drops, the bin stays bare for days, and the dispenser gives water as usual: an ice maker not making ice while the rest of the appliance carries on normally. ### Make Samsung Samsung ice maker repair, with the door ice maker, the dispenser and the water line in scope. ### Source Samsung error codes page Samsung models with an ice room for the in-door ice maker. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Samsung's own guidance for 40E on its ice makers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Listen at the ice compartment with the door closed for the fan; silence while the ice bin is empty fits this code. 02 If you see frost around the ice maker, unplug the unit and let the ice compartment thaw fully with towels in place. 03 Plug it back in and book a visit if 40E returns within a day or two. ### Still there? It usually turns into [diagnostic visit](https://icemakerrepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do 40E does not concern the freezer fan or the fresh food fan, which Samsung reports with other numbers. It also is not a water problem, even though the ice maker stops producing. ## What you may notice with it. The ice maker problems 40E tends to arrive with. Listen at the ice compartment with the door closed for the fan; silence while the ice bin is empty fits this code. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### What is the ice room on a Samsung? It is the insulated compartment in the fresh food section that holds the door ice maker and its bucket. A fan feeds it cold air from the freezer. ### Can frost cause 40E on a Samsung ice maker? Frost around the ice room fan can stop the blade, which the control reads as a fan problem. A full thaw sometimes clears it, but the cause of the frost still needs to be found. ### My Samsung shows 40C instead of 40E. Is it different? Samsung lists 40E and 40C under the same Ice Room Fan meaning. Treat them the same way. --- **[Read on the site: Samsung 40E or 40C: ice room fan | IceMakerRepair.center](https://icemakerrepair.center/error-codes/samsung-40e/)** **[Book a visit with IceMakerRepair.center](https://icemakerrepair.center/schedule/)**
