DUMBO was once mainly a manufacturing district of warehouses and factories that made machinery, paper boxes, spices and Brillo soap pads. ## What DUMBO does to an ice maker. America's first large reinforced-concrete factories still stand in DUMBO. The Landmarks Preservation Commission made DUMBO the city's 90th historic district on December 18, 2007. During Hurricane Sandy in 2012, subway tunnels under the East River flooded and subway service between Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn was cut. [All of New York Metro](https://icemakerrepair.center/locations/new-york/) ### Tower living Water climbs a tower by booster pump or roof tank, and the pressure that reaches one kitchen is not always what an ice maker's inlet valve needs, so a mold that fills short and drops small, hollow cubes has the pressure at its valve measured before any part is ordered. ### Older housing stock Older houses often feed the ice maker through a saddle valve clamped onto a copper pipe, a fitting plumbers no longer recommend, and its rubber seal hardens with age until a slow drip at the clamp soaks the subfloor behind the unit. ### On the water Near salt water the screws, clips and drain pump housing of an outdoor undercounter ice maker corrode long before its cooling parts do, so a coastal visit starts with the metal that holds the drain, the door and the water connection together. ## A visit in DUMBO.
