Homes here are on Tampa Water Department service, whose finished water averaged 211 mg/L of total hardness during 2025. ## What Davis Islands does to an ice maker. In 2025 the department drew 980 million gallons of treated water it had stored underground in aquifer recovery wells, and bought 2.7 percent of its supply from Tampa Bay Water. Tampa disinfects its river water with ozone first, then adds chlorine and ammonia so a chloramine residual rides through the mains to each tap. Peter O. Knight Airport and a seaplane basin take up the southern end of the islands. [All of Tampa Bay](https://icemakerrepair.center/locations/tampa-bay/) ### On the water Near salt water the screws, clips and drain pump housing of an outdoor undercounter ice maker corrode long before its cooling parts do, so a coastal visit starts with the metal that holds the drain, the door and the water connection together. ### Older housing stock Galvanized pipes in an older house shed rust flakes and scale whenever the water is turned back on after plumbing work, and that grit lands on the inlet valve's screen, so an ice maker that fills slowly after a renovation is checked at the screen first. ### Designed kitchens and bars Where the undercounter ice maker's drain was taken to a hidden standpipe to keep the cabinetry clean, the trap and the air gap are easy to forget, and a smell from the bin or a slow drain after a remodel often comes from a hose sagging behind the panel. ## A visit in Davis Islands.
