Ice making is a short loop that repeats: the valve opens and fills the mold, the water freezes, a sensor reads that it is frozen, a heater or a twist frees the cubes, the ejector drops them into the bin, and the loop starts again as long as the bin has room. When the ice maker is not making ice, the question worth asking is which step stopped. An empty, dry mold points at water that never arrived: a closed valve, a clogged filter, an iced fill tube or a dead inlet valve. A mold holding frozen cubes that never drop points at the harvest: the motor, the heater or the thermostat that starts it. A full bin that reads as empty, or an arm raised by a stray cube, simply tells the ice maker to rest. Looking into the mold usually settles which half of the loop to chase. No ice coming from the ice maker: 5 checks, and none of them costs anything. 01 Look into the mold: dry and empty means water is not arriving, frozen cubes that stay put mean the harvest has stopped. 02 Make sure the ice maker is switched on in the panel or at its own switch, and that the arm or bin sensor is not blocked by cubes. 03 Run the water dispenser for a full glass; slow or no water puts the supply side first on the list. ### Also worth checking - Confirm the valve that feeds the ice maker is fully open, especially after plumbing work. - Note when the filter was last changed and whether it clicked fully into place. ### How soon does it need a visit? Plan on most of a day. The freezer has to reach its working cold, the first fills often purge air from the line, and many makers throw away the first few batches because they can taste of the new line. ### I can hear a click and a hum, but no water comes. What does that tell you? That the control is calling for water and the valve may be trying to open.
