Houston's reluctance to run electric lines so far out was the reason the town incorporated.

The Poor Farm Ditch, which drains into Brays Bayou, was dredged in 1928 after heavy flooding and given a concrete bottom and sides by the Harris County Flood Control District in 1954.

After development rules were loosened, mid-20th-century bungalows and cottages gave way to new houses until the city ran out of available lots.
