What Er IF
actually means.
On Kenmore 795 models with the ice compartment in the door, Er IF means the fan that blows cold air into that compartment has stopped. Sears lists a blocked fan, a defective fan motor, damaged wiring or a failed control board.

What to do when Er IF shows on the ice makerKind of codeFans and airflow
The fan that moves cold air to the ice maker stopped, slowed or froze in place. A door ice maker depends on that air, carried to the door through a duct, so when the fan quits the ice compartment warms and cubes melt and refreeze into clumps. Ice blocking the blades or the duct is ruled out before a motor is ordered.
Usually leads toDiagnostic visit
A visit that traces the water from the supply valve to the bin and back out through the drain, and names the one part that stopped the ice before anything is ordered.
Shows up asNo Ice Coming From the Ice Maker
The mold sits empty or holds one frozen batch that never drops, the bin stays bare for days, and the dispenser gives water as usual: an ice maker not making ice while the rest of the appliance carries on normally.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Kenmore's own guidance for Er IF on its ice makers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Open the ice compartment and check for frost or ice blocking the fan.
Reset power for a minute after clearing any blockage.
Watch for slow ice or melted cubes in the door bin.
If Er IF returns, book a visit.
What not to do
Er IF is not the freezer's main evaporator fan, which is Er FF. It concerns only the small fan feeding the ice compartment in the door.
What you may
notice with it.
The ice maker problems Er IF tends to arrive with. Answer these at the ice maker before anyone is booked.

Door ice maker
The ice maker that feeds the dispenser on the outside of a door: tucked into an insulated box in the left door of a French door model, or at the top of the freezer side of a side-by-side, with a chute and an auger carrying cubes to your glass.
Freezer ice maker
The ice maker that sits inside the freezer compartment itself, a tray that twists or a mold with a heater and an ejector, dropping cubes into a bin or drawer you open by hand, with no dispenser on the door.
