actually means.
Err on the top display of a GE Profile bottom-freezer model means no filter is present or the wrong filter is installed. The control reads the XWFE cartridge, so a missing or unrecognized one leaves the water side without a valid filter.

The ice maker asked for water and got too little, too slowly or none at all, or water kept arriving after the fill should have ended. A closed shutoff, a kinked line, a clogged filter and low house pressure are ruled out before the water inlet valve is replaced or the fill tube is thawed. If water is on the floor, close the supply valve before reading anything on the display.

Open the filter compartment and confirm a filter is installed and turned fully into place.
Check the part number is XWFE; replace any other cartridge with the correct one.
If no filter is available, fit the bypass plug in its place.
If Err stays with the correct filter installed, book a visit.
