Sub-Zero EC30 with Service flashing: the ice maker has shut itself down

On 600 and 700 Series units and IC-27 columns, code 30 (shown as EC30 or EC 30 with Service blinking) means the control counted too many long openings of the ice maker's water valve solenoid and stopped ice production.

What EC30
actually means.

On 600 and 700 Series units and IC-27 columns, code 30 (shown as EC30 or EC 30 with Service blinking) means the control counted too many long openings of the ice maker's water valve solenoid and stopped ice production. Sub-Zero's pages give a limit of 15 seconds per fill, and on the 600 Series five such fills in a row.

What to do when EC30 shows on the ice maker

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Sub-Zero's own guidance for EC30 on its ice makers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the ice maker off at its own control so it stops trying to fill.

02

Look in the ice maker for a cube wedged in the mold or ejector and clear it by hand, without tools.

03

Write down EC30 and the temperatures shown on the display, then book a visit if the code returns once the ice maker is back on.

What not to do

EC30 says nothing about the fresh food or freezer temperature. Cooling problems on these series show as EC40 or EC50 instead.

Questions
about EC30.

Can I clear EC30 myself?
Switch the ice maker off at its own control so it stops trying to fill. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why did my Sub-Zero ice maker stop after EC30 appeared?
The control shuts the ice maker down on purpose when its water valve has been energized too long, too many times. That protects the freezer from an overfilled mold and spilled water. A stuck cube in the mold is the first thing to look for.
Can a jammed cube really cause EC30 on a Sub-Zero 700 Series?
Yes. Sub-Zero's own first step for code 30 on the 700 Series is to check the ice maker for jammed cubes and clear them. A cube that holds the mold or ejector out of position can keep the fill cycle from finishing normally.
Should I keep using the freezer while EC30 is showing?
Yes, the code concerns ice making only, so frozen food can stay where it is. Keep the ice maker off until a technician has looked at the valve, the fill tube and the ice maker module.

Back to your everyday

Still showing EC30?

Book with the code or the blink pattern written exactly as the ice maker shows it, the full model number, and whether there is any water on the floor — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
