What to do when Er01 shows on the ice maker

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Viking's own guidance for Er01 on its ice makers. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Make sure the front grille is not blocked and the unit is not next to an oven or other heat source.

02

Switch the power off, wait a few minutes and switch it back on.

03

If the three lamps blink again, book a visit to check the sealed system and the evaporator sensor.

Still there?

It usually turns into ice maker assembly replacement. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Er01 is not a water or drain problem, even though those two lamps are blinking. The three-lamp pattern is one code for an evaporator that is not getting cold.

Questions
about Er01.

Can I clear Er01 myself?
Make sure the front grille is not blocked and the unit is not next to an oven or other heat source. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
All three lamps on my Viking nugget ice maker are blinking. What now?
That is Er01: the evaporator did not get below freezing after half an hour of ice making. Check the airflow at the grille, cycle the power once, and book a visit if it returns.
Is Er01 on a Viking always a refrigerant leak?
No. Viking lists a refrigerant leak check and a check of the sensor and its attachment. A loose or failed sensor can make a working system look warm.
Should I keep restarting my Viking after Er01?
Viking says to resupply power after the cooling problem is resolved. Repeated restarts without a repair only hide the cause.

Still showing Er01?

Book with the code or the blink pattern written exactly as the ice maker shows it, the full model number, and whether there is any water on the floor — when there is a code, that is where the diagnosis starts.
