What the water filter and supply line service
involves.
Before water reaches an ice maker it passes a shutoff valve, several feet of thin tubing, often a filter, and at least two fittings. Each of those can slow the water or let it escape. An old filter clogged with sediment starves the ice maker and gives small cubes; a new one seated slightly crooked can seep or block flow completely. A plastic line kinked behind the cabinet cuts the supply, and one that has hardened with age can split at a fitting and leak into the cabinet or under the floor. The technician starts at the shutoff valve, checks the flow and the pressure, follows the line to the back of the appliance, and looks at every joint. A new filter is fitted and flushed, a brittle line is replaced with braided stainless, and a pierced saddle valve is swapped for a proper quarter-turn shutoff.
How the visit goesWhat it usually costsLowest · Water filter, supply line or shutoff valve
A filter, a braided line or a quarter-turn shutoff is among the least costly work an ice maker can need. A line that has to be run a long way to reach the appliance adds some time.

The kitchen, the climate and the building all change how the water filter and supply line service goes. These notes are about that, metro by metro.
All service areasTampa BayFL · 31 areas
When Tampa Bay's water blend changes with the season, owners often notice a new taste in their ice, and a filter change with a flush of the line usually clears it, while an old plastic supply tube is replaced with braided line at the same visit.
OrlandoFL · 30 areas
Orlando's aquifer water can carry a faint sulfur note in some neighborhoods that a spent filter no longer removes, so a vacation home whose guests complain about ice taste gets a new filter, a flushed line and a sanitized bin before the next arrival.
Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas
Many South Florida condo associations ask for a braided supply line and a working shutoff behind the ice maker, so this service replaces old plastic tubing, tests the stop valve and leaves the owner with a valve that closes when they travel.
New York MetroNY · 75 areas
New York's reservoir water tastes clean, so a filter here is mainly about the building's own pipes, and older buildings with sediment after main work or riser repairs are where a fresh filter and a flushed supply line make the clearest difference.
HoustonTX · 36 areas
After a Houston boil-water notice, every ice maker in the affected area needs its ice thrown out, its filter replaced and its line flushed, and this service does all three and sanitizes the bin so the next ice is safe to use.
ChicagoIL · 50 areas
Chicagoland homes in older neighborhoods sit on lead service lines the city is still replacing, and a filter rated for lead, changed on time, is the part of this service owners there ask about most, along with braided line in place of old plastic tubing.
Los AngelesCA · 95 areas
Earthquakes are why a Los Angeles ice maker's supply should be a flexible braided line with enough slack, and this service replaces rigid or brittle tubing, fits a quarter-turn shutoff and changes the filter that hard water has loaded.
San DiegoCA · 31 areas
San Diego's imported water leaves filters loaded with fine sediment and its hard minerals pass straight through them, so this service pairs a new filter with a flushed line and, where the owner wants it, advice on a softener ahead of the ice maker.
San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas
The Bay Area's soft, chloramine-treated water gives ice a faint chemical taste once a filter is spent, so a filter change and a flushed line fix most taste complaints, and an old saddle valve is swapped for a proper shutoff at the same visit.
