True Residential ice makers,
specifically.

True Residential sells a 15-inch clear ice maker in standard and ADA heights, rated for outdoor use, and an ice maker freezer column. Its clear ice units come with a drain pump and a water filter built in and spell out their status in short words on the display, such as drn, LnG and FuL.

The True Residential lineup

What is particular
to True Residential.

We work on True's 15-inch TUI-15 clear ice units, the ADA-height TUIADA-15 and the ice maker freezer column. The clear ice units share one control and one set of display codes.

A drain pump on every clear ice unit

True fits a drain pump as standard, and the control shuts off the water and cuts power if the drain does not clear within 5 minutes, showing drn Err. That means a kinked hose often looks like a dead unit until the display is read.

Words on the display

Instead of numbers, the True display pairs short words such as LnG FiL for a slow fill, hot GAS for the harvest valve and Lo t2 for a cold room. Each pair points at one part or condition, which speeds up the diagnosis.

A water quality setting

True lets the owner set water quality from 0 for soft water to 5 for hard water, and higher settings flush more water between cycles. On hard-water homes we check this setting before blaming cloudy cubes on a part.

Outdoor-rated undercounter models

All True undercounter ice units are UL rated for outdoor use, and the guide calls for winterizing in cold weather. Outdoor kitchens bring dust on the condenser and freezing risk that indoor units never see.

Parts

Drain pumps, thermistors, hot gas valves and water filters are True-specific. Control and refrigeration parts may need to be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

True's clear ice units are built to last, so a pump, probe or valve replacement is usually the right call. Replacement comes up mainly after freeze damage to an outdoor unit that was never winterized.

Questions about
True Residential ice makers.

Why did my True clear ice maker shut off and show drn?
The drain did not clear within 5 minutes of the pump running, so the control shut off the water and cut power. Check the drain hose for kinks and clogs, then turn the unit back on.
What does LnG FiL mean on a True ice maker?
The reservoir took too long to fill. True's first checks are that the water filter is installed and the water supply is turned on.
Can a True ice maker stay outside in winter?
The undercounter models are rated for outdoor use, but True asks you to winterize them in freezing weather. Lo t2 on the display means it is already too cold to run.
Why are my True clear ice cubes cloudy?
Scale and hard water are the usual reasons. Run the automatic clean and check the water quality setting, which flushes more water between cycles at higher numbers.
