What is particular
to SKS.

Ice makers appear in the 48-inch built-in French door units, the 36-inch built-in and counter-depth French door models, the 42-inch side-by-side and the 18- to 36-inch freezer columns. Door-dispenser models and interior-ice models use different ice makers, bins and controls.

Two ice makers in one unit

The 36-inch counter-depth model has an in-door ice maker behind the dispenser and a Craft Ice maker in the freezer, each with its own on and off button. One can be off while the other runs, so we ask which ice has stopped before anything else.

Craft Ice arrives slowly

The Craft Ice maker makes three spheres per batch: about one batch a day in 3 Ice mode and two in 6 Ice mode. A thin supply of spheres is normal for that design, not a sign of a failing part.

A buzz before the water is connected

SKS warns that leaving the ice maker on before the water line is hooked up can damage it, and the fill valve buzzes while it tries. On a new installation we check this setting first.

An uneven bin stops production

Ice that piles up on one side of the bin can fool the full-bin sensing and halt the ice maker with the bin half empty. Shaking the bin level is the owner's first move, and it clears many no-ice calls.

Parts

Each SKS owner's manual names its replacement filter cartridge, and ice maker and valve parts follow the model number. Parts not in stock locally may be ordered after the first visit.

Repair or replace

Most SKS ice problems end in a setting, a filter, the fill valve or the ice maker assembly, all replaceable in a built-in unit. Replacement is a real question only when the sealed system is failing as well.

Why does my SKS Craft Ice maker make so few spheres?
That is how it is built: each batch is three spheres, about one batch a day in 3 Ice mode and two in 6 Ice mode. Pick 6 Ice for more spheres or 3 Ice for clearer ones.
Why is the ice maker on my new SKS buzzing?
The fill valve buzzes when the ice maker is switched on but no water line is connected yet. Turn the ice maker off until the line is in, because SKS warns that running it dry can damage it.
Why did my SKS side-by-side stop giving crushed ice?
SKS notes that the ice passage can frost over when only crushed ice is used. Take the bin out, clear the passage with a rubber spatula, and mix in cubed ice to keep it from building up again.
The SKS ice bin is half full and nothing new is dropping. What should I do?
Shake the bin so the ice sits level; cubes stacked on one side can make the ice maker think the bin is full. If ice still does not come within a day, book a visit.
