U-Line ice makers,
specifically.

U-Line builds only undercounter ice makers for home bars and kitchens, in crescent, clear, craft clear and nugget versions, including outdoor models. Its clear and nugget units need a drain and regular cleaning, and its digital models keep a service error log behind a display that shows only the door alert.

All ice maker types

What is particular
to U-Line.

We service U-Line's 14- and 15-inch crescent ice makers, 15- and 18-inch clear ice models, the craft clear model and the indoor and outdoor nugget models. Outdoor units have their own winterizing needs and extra codes for water level.

Crescent makers versus ice machines

U-Line's crescent units freeze water in a mold and eject cubes into a bin, while its clear and nugget machines run water over an evaporator and must have a drain. The type decides whether we start with the mold heater and fill tube or with the pump, drain and water distribution.

A hidden error log

On the clear and craft ice models only dr, the door alert, appears on the display; thermistor, water level and pump codes are stored in a log read in service mode. We read that log first, because it often names the part before we take a panel off.

Cleaning alerts built in

U-Line's clear ice models flag when a cleaning cycle is due, and the guide calls for cleaning at least every three months with its own clear ice cleaner. Scale on the evaporator is behind many thin-cube and low-production calls.

Nugget lamps instead of numbers

The 15-inch nugget model shows problems as patterns on its ICE, NO WATER and DRAIN lamps, each tied to an Er number. A single blinking lamp and all three blinking together point to very different parts.

Parts

Drain pumps, water valves, thermistors and evaporators are specific to the ice type and model series. Evaporator and control parts for older clear ice units may take longer to arrive.

Repair or replace

Most U-Line ice calls end with a cleaning, a valve, a pump or a sensor, which is well worth doing on a built-in unit. When an older clear ice model needs both an evaporator and sealed-system work, replacing it can make more sense.

Questions about
U-Line ice makers.

Why does my U-Line clear ice maker show dr?
The door switch thinks the door is open, and after 5 minutes the control sounds a tone and shows dr. Close the door firmly and check the gasket; if dr stays, the switch needs testing.
How often should a U-Line clear ice maker be cleaned?
U-Line calls for a cleaning cycle whenever the unit alerts you, and at least every three months otherwise. Hard water can mean more often; use U-Line's clear ice cleaner.
My U-Line crescent ice maker stopped filling. What could it be?
U-Line's troubleshooting lists a closed supply valve, a failed water switch or solenoid valve, broken wiring and a frozen fill tube outlet. The frozen tube is common and is thawed before parts are replaced.
Does every U-Line ice maker need a floor drain?
The clear and nugget machines need a drain, either by gravity or through a drain pump. U-Line describes its crescent ice makers as keeping the cubes frozen in a bucket, and states the drain requirement for its ice machines.
