Electrolux ice makers,
specifically.

Electrolux French door models can carry a fresh food ice maker that feeds the door dispenser and, on select models, a second ice maker in the freezer drawer. Earlier ICON under-counter clear-ice makers are no longer sold but still sit in many kitchens, with their own drain and clean cycle.

The Electrolux lineup

What is particular
to Electrolux.

Electrolux's current US refrigerators are a short line of counter-depth French door models, plus single-door and wine units. The model tag tells us whether it has a door dispenser, a freezer ice maker or both; ICON under-counter ice makers carry their own model plate.

Ice maker button on the inner display

On the French door models covered by the current manual, the fresh food ice maker is switched with a button on the in-door control display, held for three seconds. With it off, the CRUSH or CUBE light blinks twice when you choose ice, which owners often mistake for a problem.

Two ice makers, two switches

The freezer ice maker on select models has its own power button and a test button on the unit, separate from the display. When only one of the two stops, we check which switch is off before anything else.

Clear ice slabs on older under-counter units

Electrolux's ICON under-counter ice maker cascaded water over a vertical mold and dropped a slab that breaks into cubes. A slab that will not separate usually means the thickness setting or the unit's level is off.

A drain pump option

Those under-counter units drain by gravity or through an optional Electrolux drain pump. A clogged drain or a failed pump backs water into the bin, so the drain gets checked on every visit.

Parts

Fresh food and freezer ice maker assemblies are shared across several Electrolux models and are usually available. Parts for discontinued ICON under-counter ice makers can be slower to find, and we confirm availability before the repair.

Repair or replace

Door and freezer ice makers on Electrolux models are routine part replacements. For a discontinued under-counter clear-ice maker, the decision depends on whether the compressor and the evaporator plate are still sound.

Questions about
Electrolux ice makers.

Why do CRUSH and CUBE blink on my Electrolux when I choose ice?
In the Electrolux manual, the CRUSH or CUBE light blinks twice when you choose ice while the fresh food ice maker is switched off. Hold the ice maker button for three seconds to turn it back on; ice already in the bucket can still be dispensed.
How much water pressure does an Electrolux door dispenser need?
Electrolux recommends between 30 and 100 psi at the supply. Pressure above that range can make the filter misbehave, and pressure below it gives small cubes and slow water.
My older Electrolux under-counter ice maker shows CL. Is it broken?
No. CL confirms that the automatic clean cycle has started. The cycle takes about 45 minutes, then the unit rests for another 15 before returning to normal ice making.
Why does ice come out of my Electrolux ICON under-counter ice maker as one slab?
Those units make a sheet of clear ice that is meant to break along thin bridges as it drops into the bin. A thicker bridge setting or a unit that is not level makes the slab stick together.
