Samsung ice makers,
specifically.

Samsung builds ice makers in two places: an in-door unit that feeds the dispenser, and freezer ice makers, including a Dual Auto Ice Maker that makes regular cubes and small Ice Bites side by side. Many Samsung models name an ice problem with a number and a letter, such as 39E or 40C, before the bin runs empty.

The Samsung lineup

What is particular
to Samsung.

Samsung's current lines include 3-Door and 4-Door French door models with in-door ice, Bespoke models with a Dual Auto Ice Maker in the freezer, and top-freezer models with their own reset steps. The model tag tells us which ice maker, fan and heater are fitted before we arrive.

Two ice makers, two test buttons

On the Dual Auto Ice Maker, the cube maker and the Ice Bites maker sit next to each other at the top of the lower left freezer, and each has its own Test button under the vent. One chime after the second tone is a pass; several chimes mean the unit found a problem.

An ice room with its own fan

Samsung's door ice maker lives in a separate ice compartment with a dedicated fan, and a 40E or 40C code points at that fan. When the fan stops, cubes come out slowly and frost builds up around the ice maker.

A heater on the fill tube

Samsung lists 33E as an Ice Pipe Heater problem. That heater keeps the tube that brings water to the ice maker from freezing shut, so a 33E usually arrives together with a bin that has stopped filling.

Scoop holders that hide a sensor

On some 4-Door Flex models, the scoop holders clip onto the front of the ice buckets, and fitted backwards they cover a sensor and stop ice production. The side marked REAR must face the ice maker.

Parts

Ice maker assemblies, ice room fans and water valves for current Samsung models are widely stocked. Control boards and fill-tube heaters for older in-door designs can take longer to source, so we confirm the part number on the first visit.

Repair or replace

A Samsung ice problem is almost always a single-part repair: the ice maker, its fan, the valve or the heater. Replacing the whole unit only makes sense when the sealed cooling system has also failed or the cabinet is badly damaged.

Questions about
Samsung ice makers.

Where are the ice makers on a Samsung model that makes Ice Bites?
On the Dual Auto Ice Maker, both units sit near the top of the lower left freezer compartment: cubes on the left, Ice Bites on the right. Each one has its own Test button under the vent, just above the bucket.
My Samsung ice maker chimes several times after I press Test. What does that mean?
Samsung counts one chime as a pass. Several chimes mean the ice maker found a problem during its self-test, and Samsung's next step is a service visit, so book a visit and tell us which of the two ice makers chimed.
Why does Ice Off blink on my Samsung display?
Samsung uses that blink to say the ice bucket is missing or not seated. Push the bucket fully home; if the light keeps blinking with the bucket in place, the bucket switch or its wiring needs checking.
Can I press the Samsung Test button again and again to get more ice?
No. Samsung warns that pressing Test again once the tray has water or ice in it can overflow the tray or jam the ice, which leads to leaks and clumped cubes.
