Bosch ice makers,
specifically.

Bosch French door models pair a through-the-door ice and water dispenser with the QuickIce Pro system, and its smaller bottom-freezer models make ice in the freezer instead. Bosch keeps its ice codes short: E02 for the ice maker and its controls, E03 for the dispenser panel.

The Bosch lineup

What is particular
to Bosch.

Bosch's 100 and 300 Series French door models carry external ice and water dispensers, while the 24-inch 800 Series bottom-freezer models make ice in the freezer. The series and model number tell us whether QuickIce Pro and which filter are fitted.

A fast ice maker that empties quickly

Bosch rates the QuickIce Pro system at up to 12 pounds a day, a figure measured with the ice bin removed. High output means the bin fills and empties fast, so a slow day stands out quickly.

Extra ice stored in the freezer drawer

Some Bosch French door models include an ice bucket in the freezer drawer that holds about 5 more pounds. Ice there is storage only; the ice maker itself feeds the door dispenser.

One code for the ice side

Bosch's E02 covers both an ice maker that has failed and a loss of communication among the ice and water controls. Telling the two apart takes a test of the ice maker and the harness, not just a new ice maker.

A filter that treats water and ice

Bosch's UltraClarityPro filter treats both the dispensed water and the water sent to the ice maker. A clogged or wrong filter slows filling and shrinks cubes on every Bosch model with an ice maker.

Parts

Ice makers, water valves and UltraClarityPro filters for current Bosch models are usually available. Dispenser interface boards for older series can take longer to arrive.

Repair or replace

A Bosch showing E02 or E03 usually needs one part: the ice maker, a harness or the dispenser interface. Those repairs cost far less than replacing a counter-depth French door model.

Questions about
Bosch ice makers.

How much ice should a Bosch with QuickIce Pro make?
Bosch quotes up to 12 pounds a day, tested with the bin removed, and 10 pounds on some 300 Series spec sheets. Much less than that over a full day points to water supply, filter or ice maker problems.
What should I try first when my Bosch shows E02?
Bosch's own step is to switch the breaker off for 30 seconds and back on. If E02 returns, book a visit; the cause may be the ice maker or the controls that link it to the dispenser.
Is the ice bucket in my Bosch freezer drawer an ice maker?
No. On models that include it, that bucket only stores about 5 pounds of extra ice. The ice maker that feeds the dispenser is separate.
